Under the Hood With Darren Rowse
In Interviews by Skellie![]()
This week, Darren Rowse (the six-figure blogger behind Digital Photography School and ProBlogger.net) gives us a behind-the-scenes look at his digital office.
“I’m an Apple guy. I work with two computers, a MacBook Pro (2.16Ghz Intel Core Duo) and a Power Mac G5 (2 Ghz). I have a 23 inch Cinema Screen and a cheap secondary monitor that is also a TV. I sit on a Herman Miller Aeron Chair.
“Here’s a video tour of the setup. I outlined most of the applications that I use in this post.”
(They are: Ecto, ImageWell, Skitch, Twhirl, Flickr Uploader, Cyberduck, InstantShot, CaptureMe, Adium, Skype, Firefox, Text Edit, Keynote and TaskPaper.)

The Aeron is more important to me than the rest of my gear…and the best investment I’ve made.

Thanks for this, Skellie!
I’m a Darren Rowse “fan” (and a Skellie-one too, by-the-way!), but I think I have to acquaint myself with some of his applications again.
Did you do an “Under the Hood with Skellie” yet?

I think the most important piece of ‘gear’ under the hood of most bloggers is their brain. I wonder what it would be like for ‘Under the Hood With Shakespeare?’
This week, we look under the hood with Bill Shakespeare, the playwrite who wrote diggable classics such as Macbeth and Hamlet and linkbait winner Romeo and Juliet. Will, what do you use to write such killer content?
I use this pen I fashioned from a quill feather of a bird I caught while writing some SEO for a client. He rejected the message, saying it would lower his Google score. I turned it into Antony and Cleopatra.
What about any freeware? You surely have some tips on open-source tools that’ll help up-and-comers from Verona strike it big, right?
Well, I have this parchment. It was free - some painter (Rembrandt?) gave me while passing through town. I give him a link in my newest play.
Thanks, for the insight, Will.

Thanks Skellie!
The world continues to get flatter.
The collaboration of fellow bloggers will continue to change as more ideas push the envelope of communication. This new marketing era will leave many businesses and bloggers behind if they aren’t willing to learn from each other.

@ PXLated - I agree whole-heartedly. My Aeron is my safety, my womb.
